Trump Rejects Virginia Redistricting Plan Backed by Voters

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has strongly criticized a recent redistricting-related referendum in Virginia, despite its approval by voters, escalating an already intense national debate over congressional map changes.

According to reports, Trump rejected the outcome of the vote and accused the process of being unfair, writing on his social media platform that: “A rigged election took place last night in the great Commonwealth of Virginia!”

He also argued that the wording of the referendum was intentionally confusing, claiming that it was difficult to understand even for him. He added: “In addition to everything else, the language on the referendum was purposefully unintelligible and deceptive. As everyone knows, I am an extraordinarily brilliant person, and even I had no idea what the hell they were talking about in the Referendum, and neither do they! Let’s see if the Courts will fix this travesty of 'Justice,'”

The measure reportedly passed with a narrow majority of 51.5%, according to election figures cited by reports.

The referendum comes amid a broader political struggle over redistricting in the United States.

According to reports, the push for new congressional maps has intensified after Trump encouraged Republican-led states to redraw district boundaries in ways that could improve their chances in upcoming midterm elections.

Some states have already moved forward with changes. Reports note that Texas was among the first to approve a revised congressional map through its Republican-controlled legislature, a move that could potentially increase the party’s representation in Congress.
