This marks their first on-the-record response as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor — formerly a prince and the younger sibling of King Charles — faces renewed examination over historical ties to Epstein.
Reports published last week indicated that an email written by Ghislaine Maxwell appears to substantiate the authenticity of a widely shared photograph depicting Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, then serving as the Duke of York, with his arm around Virginia Giuffre, who has accused the former royal of sexual assault.
The correspondence, which surfaced in the most recent batch of Epstein-related documents released by the US Department of Justice, carried the subject line "draft statement" and was sent in 2015 by someone identified as “G Maxwell” to Jeffrey Epstein.
In the email, Maxwell stated: "In 2001 I was in London when ... (redacted) met a number of friends of mine including Prince Andrew. A photograph was taken as I imagine she wanted to show it to friends and family."
