Many law enforcement officers shot in Virginia
The incident prompted a large emergency response, with law enforcement, firefighters, and medics rushing to the scene. US Representative John McGuire confirmed the shooting earlier in the day, expressing support for the injured deputies and their families.
At a press conference, Sheriff Mike Taylor identified the suspect as James Andreu Lehnerd. The deputies were attempting to serve him with a protective order and warrants for brandishing a firearm and trespassing when he opened fire. The officers sustained superficial shrapnel injuries, with one hospitalized as a precaution.
“All three are well,” Taylor said, noting they were shaken but recovering. The standoff ended when Lehnerd surrendered. Authorities said he will face “serious” charges, which are still being finalized.
